You can't control the wind ... but you can control your sails

Bryan's experiences of Parelli Natural Horsemanship and everything that comes with it.
Welcome to BJ's adventures in Horsedom
This is my on-line journal of my on going journey through life, aided by my experience with horses.
I'm a relatively new convert to horses having only been riding for about 9 or so years, but for 5 of those I've been interested in Natural Horsemanship.
I passed Level 1 back in 2004 and then took an eternity
... well ok ..
4 years to be precise
to pass my Level 2. Someday when I've not got much to Blog I may wax philosophical about that phase of my journey, but now ...
Level 3 Beckons !
My partner is Harley, a beautiful palomino quarter horse. He was born in March 2005 so he's only a youngster. I bought him in January 2008. I did some basic games with him and then James Roberts started him (another quiet time blog maybe). He's mainly Left Brain and a mix of Introvert & Extrovert.
He's my playmate!

About Me
Parellisms
- Do it FOR and WITH the horse, not TO him
- The only bit you need is a bit of savvy
- Reward the slightest try
- Don't get mad, get even....tempered
- When you're firm, don't get mean or mad and when you're gentle, don't be a wimp
- Be as gentle as possible but as firm as necessary
- Nothing means nothing and everything means something
- Walk a mile in your horse's shoes
- CAUSE the wrong thing to be difficult and ALLOW the right thing to be easy
- Don't 'make' or 'let' - DO 'cause' and 'allow'. Know the difference.
- Punishment doesn't work for prey animals, but a program of prevention does
- The better your horse goes sideways and backwards, the better he'll do everything else.
- If your horse says no, you either asked the wrong question, or asked the question wrong
- Prior and proper preparation prevents pee-poor performance
- The horse knows what you know and he knows what you don't know, and most people don't know what they don't know, and if the horse knows what you don't know and you don't know it; you've got a problem, and you just don't know it.
- Never say never, don't always say always; usually say usually
- PLAY with your horse, and WORK on yourself
- Feel, Think, Act, and Play... Like a Horse
- When in horse-ville, do as horses do
- Savvy is knowing where to be, when to be, why to be and what to do when you get there, at any given moment and in any situation with a horse
- Pat Parelli Proudly Presents his Provocative and Progressive Programs and the proclamation that Prior and Proper Preparation Prevents P-Poor Performance, Particularly if Polite and Passive Persistence is Practiced in the proper position. This Perspective takes Patience from Process to Product, from Principle to Purpose. The Promise that Pat Plans to Prove is that Practice does not make Perfect, only Perfect Practice makes Perfect and, isn’t it Peculiar how these poor Prey animals Perceive People as predators prior to practicing the Parelli Programs.
- When they're blinking they're thinking, when they're not they're hot
- Set it up and wait
- Take the time it takes, so that it takes less time
- LUCK is spelled W O R K and defined as when preparation meets opportunity
- It´s non of my business what other people think of me
- Practice doesnt make perfect, only perfect practice makes perfect
- Passive persistence in the proper position
- OH BOY!
- Admire a tall horse. Ride a short one
- How Interesting!
- Good, better, best, never let it rest, get your good better and your better best
- The more you use the reins, the less they use their brains
- Horses don't care how much we know, until they know how much we care!
Hmmm!
Watch your thoughts, they become your words,
Watch your words, they become your actions,
Watch your actions, they become your attitude,
Watch your attitude, it becomes your character,
And you and I are both characters in the world,
So watch your thoughts!
Watch your words, they become your actions,
Watch your actions, they become your attitude,
Watch your attitude, it becomes your character,
And you and I are both characters in the world,
So watch your thoughts!
